RECENT WORK

With three of us on Saturday 18th and ten at our monthly working bee on Saturday 25th there has been impressive progress with clearing and mulching along the Drayton Drive track and we have planted 30 totara and felled 3 wilding macrocarpas. Many thanks to Frances Singleton for the rest of the lovely cake. Well done all and hopefully more volunteers will join in on the 25th.

COUNCIL OFFICER

Thanks to Kerri Yates for looking after us the last month and Bridie will be our new Council Officer from the end of June.

PLANTS

I have walked through the Reserve with Colin Meurk and Cynthia Roberts (ecologists) and now have 9 different habitats identified with the main plant species listed for each. This will form the basis of our future planting efforts. Colin also found several less well known native plants which need looking after. All we can do at this stage is ask you only to pull out plants you are sure are weeds! We hope to get some name tags organised for vulnerable plants. We have been given 300 plants to put in this winter and have started with the 30 totara mentioned above. Planting will continue over the next month or so as we clear weeds to make space.

TASKS

Some specific help would be appreciated for monitoring the stream health using a NIWA kit.

ANIMAL PESTS & BIRD COUNTS

We are refining strategies  for pest monitoring and control and for bird counts.
